Albert Moving and Storage Awarded Worker Training Funds, Trains Workers to be Better Drivers

Wichita Falls, Tex. (PRWEB) June 6, 2007 -- A Wichita Falls moving company is training workers to be better drivers of their moving trucks while giving them a new skill with funds awarded by the Workforce Resource Board.

Albert Moving and Storage in Wichita Falls has been awarded Worker Training Funds. The Board awarded $15,000 to the long-time, family-owned company to upgrade the skills of current workers by enrolling 15 workers in a customized truck driver program offered at the business by Vernon College. Albert Moving and Storage plans to "grow their own" drivers by training packers and loaders to also become drivers.

Worker Training Funds are offered to businesses in the 11-county North Texas area with funds allocated by the Texas Workforce Commission to assist employers to provide training that they may not be able to offer to current employees without the funds.

To be eligible to apply for the Worker Training Funds, businesses must have been operating for at least one year, have at least one employee, and indicate a significant upgrade in employee skills and/or wages as a result of the training. A 50% match from the employer also is required.

Businesses, including hospitals, banks, and manufacturers, among others, have received Worker Training Funds in the past two years.

Albert Moving and Storage Company plans the 192-hour program to include classroom instruction in Department of Transportation laws and regulations and driver training using company trucks. All employees will receive paid release time to attend training. At the end of the training, several employees will earn a Class A drivers license and receive wage adjustments based on their new skills.

"One of the company's core values is personal growth. For years, Albert Moving has provided tuition reimbursement for our team. This program is a next step and an overall great opportunity for Albert Moving to further develop our existing employees, " said Lee Wood, director of human resources.

"Albert Moving was especially drawn to this program because we are able to integrate our own equipment and facilities. Our employees will be learning on the actual equipment they will use in their work every day, and the classes are held here on our campus, giving us maximum schedule flexibility," Wood said.

The company's five divisions are headquartered in Wichita Falls. They provide moving services throughout the world, commercial and consumer storage, document storage and shredding, and sell moving supplies.

The Workforce Resource Board is one of 28 local workforce development boards in Texas which administer state and federal funds for training, job search assistance, job-readiness, and labor market information through workforce centers. Services are provided to employers and job-seekers in the 11 counties of North Texas including Archer, Baylor, Clay, Cottle, Foard, Hardeman, Jack, Montague, Wichita, Wilbarger, and Young. Workforce Resource Centers are located in Bowie, Graham, Vernon, and Wichita Falls, and a mobile workforce unit travels to other communities each month.

Additional information and the application may be obtained by calling the Workforce Resource Board office at 767-1432.
